A Convergence Dialogue

Dr. Stephen M. Fiore, is Director, Cognitive Sciences Laboratory, and Professor with the University of Central Florida’s Cognitive Sciences Program in the Department of Philosophy and Institute for Simulation & Training.

Steve’s research explores fundamental issues of cognition in a team setting.  He’ll share with us an ongoing project led by Virginia Sea Grant (VASG), the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), and the University of Virginia (UVA), to design and test team science training that would build teamwork capacity among coastal ocean and estuarine STEM graduate students.

This project addresses a critical need for the next generation of scientists to develop competencies that help them collaborate and generate solutions that transcend disciplines.  The focus is on integrating knowledge coming from multi-stakeholder teams brought together to address challenging and significant societal problems.  Effectively integrating ideas requires both collaborative and cognitive processes. Drawing from the empirical literature on team effectiveness, this grant encourages reflection on the problem-solving process as well provides feedback on collaboration.

Join Steve and UVA faculty as we explore his research and collectively consider novel research frameworks, theories, models, and applications. This is part of the Convergence Dialogue series.
