All members of the university are invited to join the Environmental Resilience Institute as we kickoff the Water Futures Initiative on May 9th and 10th. During the event, attendees will be introduced to each of three WFI working groups, the working group lead researchers, and potentially join a working group to discuss directions, expectations, and participation within the wider university group. Each focus area requires skills and perspectives of faculty and students across the sciences, social sciences and humanities. That’s where you come in! Your participation in the event will help sharpen and finalize the scope of each working group. Your membership within a working group producing new knowledge, interdisciplinary synthesis, and recommended actions for each challenge.
The three working groups are composed of interdisciplinary researchers focusing on three major environmental challenges, Water Security, Justice and Politics; Urban Water; Coastal Land Margins. Each working group will be co-directed by leading academics at UVA and at another, collaborating university. Full details on the working groups are described in the solicitation for collaborating scholars.
All members of the university community are welcome to attend. Your registration helps us plan catering needs. A detailed agenda and welcome message will be sent to registrants ahead of the event with additional details and opportunities to stay engaged during the WFI Initiative.
